Local Council Members Enhancing Policy Discovery and Proposal Capabilities Beyond Checks and Balances

□ LOGODI conducted on-site training sessions for 100 local council members in Taean, Chungcheongnam-do (Province), from February 27 to 28. This 'On-site Council Member Training' program, launched for the first time this year, aims to enhance the capabilities of local council members, especially those in their third year of service. The training covered key areas such as agenda setting, policy formulation, and problem-solving, addressing common regional issues.

During the training, The Born Korea Co., Ltd. presented on the theme 'Local Brand Success Strategy Involving Local Governments, Residents and Businesses,' focusing on revitalizing the local economy and boosting the population influx in partnership with local governments, residents, and businesses, a topic of keen interest in Chungcheongnam-do.

Participants explored public-private partnership examples and conflict resolution strategies, drawing from the Yesan Market revitalization project in the Province. Discussions also revolved around adapting these strategies to various regions and understanding the roles of local councils and legislators.

LOGODI provided tailored textbooks for the training, incorporating an analysis of local ordinances, policy data, budget, and financial statements from Chungcheongnam-do and its municipalities, ensuring the content was relevant and actionable for the council members.

The training also stood out for including local council office staff, responding to feedback that involving support personnel, like committee experts and policy officers, could enhance the training's effectiveness.

Looking ahead, LOGODI's 2024 agenda for local council member training encompasses four courses: on-site job training (four sessions within the same region), field and issue-specific policy training (two sessions on the same issue), and in-depth job training (covering two fundamental tasks such as budgeting and financial analysis).

Ryu Im-cheol, President of LOGODI, emphasized the organization's commitment to developing region-specific training programs that support the legislative work of local council members and positively impact local communities.
