“Safety for Foreigners”: Annual Policy Session on Disaster and Safety Management
Held for 100 Members of the Diplomatic Missions to Korea
The Ministry of the Interior and Safety (MOIS) continues to implement practical policies to ensure the safe living conditions of international residents and visitors in Korea. One notable example is the Emergency Ready App.

This app currently provides services in five languages: English, Chinese, Vietnamese, Thai, and Japanese. It enables foreigners of various nationalities to easily access critical safety information in their own language during emergency disaster situations. In addition, disaster and safety text alerts sent by the central or local government are automatically and promptly translated into foreign languages. This allows foreigners to receive information in their native language alongside the Korean version, enabling them to respond quickly in emergencies.
To share policies and best practices for foreigner safety and to discuss cooperation with the diplomatic missions, MOIS has hosted the Annual Policy Session on Disaster and Safety Management for the Diplomatic Missions to Korea since 2018.

This year’s session, held on April 22, was attended by 110 diplomats and foreign reporters from 63 countries, including the United States and Italy.
During the session, MOIS introduced Korea’s integrated disaster and safety management system, emergency resident protection plans, and communication systems for international residents and visitors. The Embassy of Belgium highlighted the Emergency Ready App, civil defense training, integrated shelter information system, and Korea Tourism Organization’s 1330 Korean Travel Hotline service as exemplary practices. Additionally, the Embassy of Angola proposed the development of disaster·safety education and training programs specifically for the diplomatic missions.
MOIS emphasized its ongoing commitment to working closely with relevant government agencies and diplomatic missions to Korea to ensure that foreigners who may be vulnerable in emergency risks due to language and cultural barriers can live more safely through various policy initiatives.
