A smart bus called by an AI algorithm? Board it Brightly!

Lately created new towns and old farming and fishing communities often suffer from public transportation due to a lack of buses. This is because existing public transportation has limitations in additional supply due to the interests of service providers(transporting companies).

However, it is Demand Response Transit(DRT) ‘Dokbus’ in Gyeonggi-do Province that has emerged with the development of digital platform technology. Gyeonggi-do has established a platform ‘Dokta’ for MaaS(Mobility as a Service), where, as a one-stop, users can search traffic information necessary for traveling(‘Dokbus’, taxi, shared bicycle, etc.), make reservations, and use payment, laying the foundation for providing mobility services which link and integrate existing and new transportation.

‘Dokbus’ has the advantages of taxis and buses so that when the passenger input the departure point and destination in the app, ‘Dokta’, artificial intelligence(AI) checks the location of the vehicle in real time, then, guides the boarding time and point which is the nearest place to the passenger.

When calling through the app ‘Dokta’, an operation efficiency can be improved at a low cost, because the optimal route to travel is flexibly made and operated by AI platform technology, in response to a passenger call and based on a user’s location information, without any fixed route.

Currently, as ‘Dokbus’ is operated in 12 cities and gun(counties) in Gyeonggi-do by 149 vehicles, in recognition of solving problems in public transportation blind spots, it was selected as an excellent case for the Korean public evaluation by a joint evaluation of local governments organized by Ministry of the Interior and Safety.
