Seoul Climate Card Tourist Pass

Seoul, the capital city of the Republic of Korea, has launched the 'Seoul Climate Card Tourist Pass' as part of its eco-friendly transportation policies aimed at achieving 'Carbon Neutrality by 2050'. Starting from January 2024, this card provides Seoul citizens with unlimited access to all public transportation within the Seoul metropolitan area, including subways, city buses, village buses, and public bikes, for a month (30 days) at a cost of 65,000 KRW.

The monthly unlimited card is expected to reduce the use of approximately 13,000 private cars annually and contribute to a reduction of 32,000 tons of greenhouse gases per year. It is estimated that around 500,000 Seoul citizens will save over 360,000 KRW per person annually (based on 60 uses per month).

In efforts to enhance Seoul's tourism competitiveness, the Seoul Metropolitan Government(SMG) announced that it will launch Climate Card Tourist Pass on July 1. This pass is available to international tourists and short-stay Korean visitors, priced at 5,000 KRW for a one-day pass, 8,000 KRW for a two-day pass, 10,000 KRW for a three-day pass, and 15,000 KRW for a five-day pass. These passes allow unlimited use of Seoul's public transportation during the selected period at a low cost, providing an economical and convenient service for tourists who typically use transportation two to three times per day.

From July onwards, international tourists can purchase a physical Climate Card Tourist Pass from various distributors including the Tourist Information Center in Seoul Tourism Plaza (Cheonggyecheon-ro, Jongro-gu), Myeongdong Tourist Information Center, customer safety centers in subway stations on lines 1 to 8, and convenience stores near subway stations. Pass holders can also enjoy discounts at cultural and performance facilities, such as 50% off admission to the Seoul Science Center and Seoul Grand Park, similar to those available with the regular Climate Card.

Recently, SMG hosted the 2024 UITP(International Conference of the International Association of Public Transport), the world's leading authority in the transportation sector based in Brussels, Belgium, from June 3rd to 5th. At this conference, Seoul showcased the achievements of the Seoul Climate Card, positioning the city as a globally attractive destination.
