LOGODI Extends the Local Council Academy by Region

Working with the local government councils, LOGODI announced that it extended the Local Council Academy by region, a collaborative program launched in 2005 to strengthen the legislative capacity of the local council members and promote communication and exchange between members.

This year, LOGODI runs this training in Seoul, Daegu, and Wanju to encourage more local council members to participate. However, considering the spread of COVID-19, LOGODI conducted the program as a hybrid-webinar event, combining online and offline attendees with broadcasting via YouTube Live concurrently.

Since the new administration of the Korean government and the 9th local councils started simultaneously through the two elections this year, LOGODI took the program as an opportunity to promote comprehensive policy communication between the central and local government councils and seek development cooperation.

For this program, there are many special lectures lined up; 'Development Direction of Local Councils' by Director General Choi Hoon of the Local Administration and Decentralization Office under the Ministry of Interior and Safety; 'Understanding the New Government Policy' by President Kim Byung-jun of the Special Committee on Balanced Regional Development under the 20th Presidential Transition Committee; 'Current Local Issues by Region' by Professor Lee Ki-woo of Inha University; 'Case Studies of Successful Legislative Action Strategies' by Mr. Kang Gam-chan and Seo Yoon-gi, former Seoul lawmakers; 'Integrity and Fairness' by Han Sam-seok, Director of the Anti-Corruption Bureau of the Anti-Corruption and Civil Rights Commission, and more.

Mr. Lee Sang-min, Minister of the Interior and Safety emphasized that local councilors, in rapport with residents, are vital actors in realizing field-oriented local autonomy. Also, he added, "I hope you do your utmost for local development and a better life for the residents."
