On May 27, 2021, LOGODI cohosted the 15th LOGODI-Tsinghua Seminar online with the School of Continuing Education of the Tsinghua University (SCETU) in the People's Republic of China.
Established in 1911, Tsinghua University is the most prestigious university in China. As a member of the C9 League of Chinese universities, it has produced many notable leaders in science, engineering, politics, business, academia, and culture. The university is consistently ranked in the top 15 of the world's best universities and number one in Asia by Times Higher Education–QS World University Rankings. Being the number one university in Asia, many of its alumni have become notable personalities, including political leaders such as Xi Jinping, the President of China.
Since 2007, LOGODI has jointly organized the annual seminar on an alternating basis with SCETU. Each year, it has served as a platform to share knowledge and practices on public administration and regional development. Also, it contributes to enhancing a common understanding of opportunities and challenges linked to local governance and policy issues faced by both countries.
As the pandemic persists, the role of local government in economic resilience is more important than ever. Preparing for the new normal and the changes in the upcoming decade, local governments must reshape a new paradigm of cooperation to develop effective communications with other countries. The seminar is received an opportune platform for both countries to share knowledge and excellent practices on economic recovery and sustainable regional development.
This year, the seminar was composed of three sessions under the theme, Economic Resilience and Sustainable Development in the Post-COVID-19 Era; 1) Cooperative Governance Development between Central and Local Governments, 2) Sustainable Digital Infrastructure Development, and 3) Strengthening Cooperation and Exchanges between Korea and China.
Over 100 officials and scholars from government agencies and academic institutions across Korea and China convened for the seminar, including 16 distinguished experts from both countries, who are prominent in the fields of governance, digital technology, and international exchanges from both countries.
In the opening ceremony, President Kim Jang-hoi of LOGODI said, “When we are striving to secure growth engines for sustainable development in the post-pandemic recovery period, I believe this seminar can provide an opportunity to share and discuss the policies of the two countries for economic recovery and growth." Dean Liu Zhen of the SCETU praised the 15 years of fruitful cooperation between both institutes and expressed his hope that the seminar has provided a place to share knowledge and experiences based on responsibility, sense of duty, the succession of civilization, and exploration of the unknown.
