LOGODI Carries Out a 3-day Intensive Workshop for Ugandan Officials

Local Government Officials Development Institute (LOGODI) carried out a 3-day intensive workshop (April 20th, 22th, and 29th, 2021) for 30 Ugandan officials from ten newly established cities, including Jinja, Lira, Mbarara. Arua, Gulu, Mbale, Forportal, Masaka, Hoima, and Soroti.

It is a follow-up to the capacity-building program completed in the November of last year. After the program last year, the Ministry of Public Service of Uganda inquired about a follow-up workshop to help the participants apply the learned models in their respective cities. Upon the request of the Ugandan government, LOGODI reviewed and allocated an additional budget for a 3-day follow-up workshop this year.

The Ugandan government surveyed and selected four topics chosen by the participants to meet the additional training needs. The chosen topics were Resource Mobilisation Strategies and Aspects of Human Capital Development, E-Governance for Good Governance, Case Studies on Successful Regional Development, and Local Government Strategies for Counteracting the Emerging COVID- 19 Challenges/Operational Issue.

To increase workshop productivity, LOGODI invited again the same professors and experts of last year and composed each session with peer discussions followed by a Q&A session to deepen knowledge about core issues related to the selected topics.

Throughout the workshop, the participants actively discussed the development direction of the digital government in a situation where the ICT infrastructure was insufficient, how to improve the effectiveness of HRD and productivity with a limited budget, the role of the government in a pandemic situation, and motivation for community participation in public health.

During the ceremony, Mr. Paul Okot-Okello, the Commissioner of District Administration, expressed his appreciation for all that the LOGODI team has done for the follow-up workshop. He also said, "this program results from close cooperation between the Civil Service College Uganda (CSCU) and LOGODI. I hope Ugandan government officials actively learn from the Korean experts and discuss practical approaches to address the challenges and issues raised in the new cities."
